I firmly believe that CHANGE is necessary to provide the best environment for employees and services for the community. In January, after being appointed to Sheriff, I listed a few goals I wanted to accomplish. Through action and change, the office has made some significant strides in tackling these goals:

  • Attend County Commission meetings on the 1st & 3rd Monday of every month
  • Continue to attend joint task force meetings with surrounding Law Enforcement Agencies
  • Attend community events (MAC Breakfast, Main Street work session, Chamber Business events, local business events, local community events)
  • Designated a mental wellness and peer support coordinator to help source additional resources for employees seeking health and wellbeing assistance
  • Changed inmate medical prescriptions to be purchased from local pharmacies putting money back into the community
  • Increase Corrections Officer pay to be competitive and recruit external talent
  • Implemented new Corrections Officer training upon hire
  • Certify Corrections Officers based on the National Institute of Jail Operations
  • Recovered over $200k in KDADs reimbursement for inmate housing that goes back into the county general fund
  • Worked with USD 475 and JCPD to assign a full-time SRO; this is the first time the Sheriff's Office has assisted with this position
